No it's not Santa Clause, but you could be getting close. I finally got the confirmation Arthur's author, Marc Brown will be here the week of October 11 to celebrate Arthur's 35th birthday. I know that this will be an exciting event for the kids & for all of us. I really want to prepare the kids for this visit. I want to have lots of Arthur leading up to the day. I know there are lots of activities out there for Arthur & I know we can come up with some of our own. Marc not only writes & illustrates Arthur, he has illustrated other books as well. I will be announcing this to the kids on Tuesday Mornings announcements. Please keep the secret until then. I want all the students to be surprised.
After next week there will be a month until his visit. I would like to get together with a group of teachers on Thursday, September 9th to begin to work on plans for Marc's presentation. If someone from each grade would volunteer to come that would be awesome. Anyone is welcome to come to this meeting. This is a very rare opportunity for our kids. There are so many cool things we can do to make this a memorable experience for us all.
Opening the Library
I feel like we have gotten off to an excellent start in the library. I am working to figure out the Promethean Board so that I can help you when you need it. Each week I will either be reading a story to your class or completing a flipchart with your classes when they come.
To save valuable time when you come I am having students place their books that they are turning in to the library on the cart next to the door. They will be scanned later to check them in. That means they will still have books on their account when they check out. Go ahead & let them check out. They do not have to bring their book back if they are still reading it.
I have a very tight schedule this year, so when I ask your class to line up I need this done quickly & efficiently. Unfortunately, there is not time to wait for stragglers. However, they can come back at a later time to check out books. The library has an OPEN DOOR policy. When your student needs a book they can come check their book in & get a new one. They do need to know how to check out a book if I am busy. Teachers if you are in the library with your class & I am teaching, if you see someone who needs help please give them a hand.
I really want us to work as a team collaborating. So as you are planning with your team for the week & you have a topic that you would like for me to address with your students just let me know. I can reinforce or enhance anything you want taught. If your students have questions that you don't have time to address, or don't know the answer, I will be happy to do it for you. You are a great co-teacher in these cases because you know what you have covered with your kids & you can help me match my vocabulary to yours.
Laptop Cords
If you would like I Have the extension cords that go with your laptops. You can slip the plug off the square charger & put this cord in its place & have a much longer cord. If you want one drop by & pick it up.
