When you find a story you love, you "Recycle" it with a friend. There are books that you come across that are just that important. They draw on your emotions you make a connection with them that goes beyond the page & touch who you are. They inspire you to be a better human being, they cause you to think, you laugh out loud or you weep for a character's loss. They are books that you will visit again because it feels like you are home. in 2011 I read several books that had a deep impact, really cause me to stop and consider how we treat our fellow human beings. These are books that I think are worthy of "recycling" with you. Each of these books has a common theme of love, hope & perseverance; coming out on the other other side of a challenge & strife & carrying forward. You might consider one of these as you pick something to read in the next few weeks. The Help is in the MISD digital library for check out. What story will you RECYCLE?
Mockingbird Books
I love Mockingbird Books! This is where I often find the stories that students want to "recycle ".
These are great picture books that make appearances on students reading lists again & again. The chart is up in the hall & the books are ready. You can start reading them on Tuesday. Right now I have one set of books but the second set is on order. It should be here this week or the next. Right now just try not to leave a book in your your room for several days. We will most likely vote in March or April. I will have a small chart outside the library where you can check off the books you have read & I will put up your shapes every day or so.
Research & Technology
I am looking for ways to work with your students that incorporate research & technology. Last week Mrs. Sheppard's science classes made awesome food webs. They took a specific biome & researched the animals that would live in that particular biome. Then they copied pictures from databases & put them into powerpoint. The students had a great time working together. Currently Fifth grade is creating Voice Threads over Manifest Destiny. I will post a Link from the library website when they are finished. I am meeting with Second grade this week to plan a lesson with them. If you would like to plan something let me know. I would love to work with you! It doesn't have to be the whole grade level, it can be just your class, if not everyone wants or has time, to participate.
