What happened to Global Warming & Great Things are on Our Horizon.

Global Warming & Weather
I don't know about you but I think the scientists got a little over excited about global warming. I think you might call it weather trends instead. Yes, summers have been warmer than those of the past. A couple of winters have been on the mild side. Goodness Gracious Gussy Miss Agnes, SERIOUSLY we have made up for it this winter. I have never anticipated having the tempurature of DFW being colder than Anchorage.  Are you kidding? That said we are behind in every area both personally & professionally. I am seeking a good dose of normal every day, that holds no trpidation or anxiety of a forcasted weather event. I want my 50-60 degree temps. back. When I am sweating buckets this summer remind of the 12 degree days with wind chill of -6.

All of this to say I know you have lots to catch up on & testing season is around the corner. If you need to shorten your library time or send groups of students instead of the whole class just let me know & we will work it out. If you need a reinforcement for a paticular TEK let me know & I will develop a lesson for your class.

Book Fair
The Book Fair will take place Monday Feb.21 - Friday, Feb. 25 at noon. I know that many of you have been missing the teacher discount that Scholatic has offered in the past. There is a great way for you to get books for your classroom. We will be holding a change drive for YOUR classroom. You can push this as much or as little as you want, it's up to you. I will provide a note to go home with your students. You can collect money all the way through the end of the fair on Friday. Whatever amount of money you collect you can spend for your classroom. Then Scholastic will match that amount in books to donate to various children's charities. You could make this a table competition or boys vs girls & the winner gets to pick the books or eat lunch with your class or whatever you can come up with. You will need to keep track of how much you are collecting each day & turn the money into the office each afternoon. On Friday you can choose the books you would like to add to your classroom. This could be a great way to get some new books in your classroom library.

MockingBird Books are Back
The MockingBird books are here. There are 20 great books to share with your class. As you read them you can add a hand to the graph in the hallway. I will have the hands in the library along with some sticky stuff for you to hang them up. I will hold back several books to do activities with in the library, so you may have to wait for some. I will get the books out by Monday afternoon. I have to 2 copies of each book so please don't hang onto them for several says in a row. Grades 3-5 if you would like to read the books & keep track of them, I can print you a small poster. let me know if you need one. I will let any K-5 class that reads all 20 vote in April. Only the K-2 votes will go to the district. These books could be a nice break from testing stress.

Personally, I love the MockingBird Books because they signal the eventual coming of spring. I hope that our weather shifts to a more typical Texas winter & start of spring, without the blizzards thrown in! ( in our neck of the woods those were blizzards!) Well, maybe if your talking about Dairy Queen Blizzards that would be okay.
