I say it all the time...The Library IS Changing!!!!

Libraries are changing! They are constantly evolving to meet the needs of the 21st century. They are no longer contained within the 4 walls of the school or the public building. They no longer have set hours, They are open 24/7/365. We have to be available for the changing demands of the 21st century learner. We have gone way beyond a location to find a good book or the information that you need.

This summer, actually around Christmas last year I started planning, this summer I put my plan into action. I decided to change the footprint of the Library that has not change in almost 20 years. Gone are the HUGE tables & chairs. Now we have some leg room! The informational(non-fiction) texts have moved, fiction & easy sections have shifted & biographies have moved to an entirely different part of the Libray. I am continuing to "Tweek" the move & to get shelf signs up. My circulation computers were down, but yesterday about 3:00 they were fixed, so we are ready to get going.

Part of my summer of RE-INVENTION or RE-IMAGINING of the library includes some major changes in how the facility operates. Last year you had a set time for check out that included you computer lab time. If I was available I assisted you or read to your class.

This year library check out, computer lab, story time, lessons are at the point of need. I have created Google forms & calendars that allow you to request/schedule times for these activities. You can schedule them as you need. You can request me to teach with you. Just fill out the online form. I will reply back as soon as you are scheduled.

Also, individual students can come as needed. Last year, I made 2 library passes for each classroom. I will be making passes for new teachers this weekend. If you can not locate your passes please let me know so that I can make you some more.

What I need you to do:
  1.  Let me know if you need new Library Passes.
  2.  Schedule your class for 45 minutes of library orientation. (I will link the forms to the bottom of        my post.)
  3. Create a shortcut to the LIBRARY REQUEST FORMS page on your iPad's homescreen,            and a shortcut or bookmark on your teacher computer.
  4. Submit a Librarian Request form for your team's conference time to come to the library to learn    check out procedures. It should take about 20 minutes to go over
  5.  Start making Requests
LIBRARY REQUEST FORMS
