Falling for Books Reading Challenge

Happy New Year! We are back in full swing! It has been a very fast 4 days. I know that I'm not alone when I tell you that I need something fun to get through the months of January & February. Also, I have been concerned that we aren't reading enough, and that we aren't reading for pleasure so I have worked up a competition for the kids. I have explained it below as well as putting a letter in your box.
I have sent you a Goole form that you need to embed into your classroom blog. The directions for that are on the back of your letter, as well as below. I will be tracking your class' progress each week on the Bulletin Board in the hall, so point that out to your kids next week. If you need help let me know & I will be happy to help you out.

Falling for Books Reading Challenge

We will be starting a reading challenge through the Library starting Monday, January 10 through Friday, March 7, when we get out for Spring Break. Students will be tracking the number of PAGES that they are reading for pleasure. The class that reads the most pages in each grade level will be invited to my Heart & Snow party. (Snow falls + you fall in Love +January & February= Heart & Snow)

I will give each student a Tracking Sheet where they can record the number of pages they read for pleasure each day. It can be a magazine, book, or digital book, it doesn’t matter what they read, as long as they can count the pages. It can be reading at home or school. Students cannot count what they read for assignments. No one has to sign off or initial the tracking sheet, the point is to challenge & encourage kids to read. This will be on the honor system.

I will be sending you a Google form that you can embed into your blog. Students will submit their weekly page totals through the form & you won’t need to do anything, except give students the chance to read & remind them to submit their totals on the Google form. I don’t want this to be a lot of extra work for you.  I will have a large chart in the hall that I will update on a weekly basis.  You know how “kids” love a little friendly competition.  None of you are competitive LOL.
