Coriander the Contrary Hen

Last week's story Coriander the Contrary Hen was a success. Students were able to practice so many of their reading skills that they have been learning in the classroom. They were able to use context clues to find out what the word contrary means & could give great examples of the behavior. They also were able to make inferences about what Coriander might have been thinking or saying throughout the story. Students did an amazing job of creating a flow map to summarize the events. So many skills came naturally in this story. Students loved this tale & were mesmerized as it was read to them. I love to see students so engrossed & engaged in the library. Their laughter makes my day.

On Thursday, I helped Sabella introduce her book study Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen to the Fifth grade. It is the story of a young man living in the wilderness at the outset of the American Revolution. Students that participate will be reading a book that will be a challenge & one that they will remember in years to come.

REGULAR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK.

First Grade will be getting ready to study Great Americans who have impacted our society in the coming weeks.

Remember to encourage your students to read & record their time for their Six Flags ticket.
