Back to the Regular Schedule

Well, we survived TAKS testing week! I think we did quite well. The halls were quiet & students worked hard. I think we can all be proud of our efforts & the kids work.

This Week
We will be back on our regular schedule this week. I have a great story to share with you, it is the last  of the Mockingbird Books, The Gold Miner's Daughter: A Melodramatic Tale. It should be an exciting read. We will learn about melodramas & how the audience is to interact with the story. This is one time I would like you to stick around for & help with the audience. If you could wait to check you box or take your quick break until after the story to help with crowd reactions that would be so very helpful. Also, this is a story I would like to share with all grade levels, so be sure to allow time.

MockingBird Books
We will be voting for your favorite MockingBird Book on May 7th. Be sure you finish up reading them by then. If you have the book Hen Hears Gossip please turn it in several people need it to finish up the list. I will have more details when it is time to vote.

Kindergarten Research
We have wrapped up Kindergarten animal research & we all had a blast while we covered more concepts & TEKS than I can count. Kindergarten used critical thinking, thinking maps, reading, comprehension & writing to share what they learned through out the week. They also were able to use the Promethean Board for the first time. Wow! That was so exciting & they LOVED it. (If you haven't gotten excited about the Promethean Boards for next year, know that you should be excited.) It held their attention &  each student could not wait to have their turn. It was my first time to use a board too. It was a challenge at first, but it got easier each time I used it. BTW:  We have a great group of First Graders for next year. Pam, Angela & Erica, I hope that you had as much fun as I did.

Children's Book Week
Children's Book Week is next week. I have a few events coming up for you & your class to participate in. I will put out more information to you this week so that you can prepare for next week.

Also, I would like for you to stop by the library to have your picture made with your favorite book to be displayed in the hall next week. I would like for everyone to participate teachers, paras. office staff, cafeteria ladies, etc. I know we all have a book we enjoy. If you aren't sure of your favorite, we can find you a book to be a new favorite.

Circulation
All library books will be due to the library on May 20. So please remind students to get those overdue books turned in.
